The Quiet Guy Who Replaced Manny In Boston
Friday, May 08, 2009
Something pretty interesting happened yesterday in Boston that fans need to be aware of. Jason Bay, the right fielder the Red Sox got as a replacement when they finally tossed Manny out of town last year, showed that he’s the left fielder who deserves to be defending the Green Monster in front of a million kids watching on TV.
The same day that news of Manny’s positive test came out, the quiet and admirable Bay hit a double to tie the game last night and then mashed a home run – in the same inning.
“Manny’s Replacement” has surpassed his fresh-off-the-docks nickname. This year he’s on pace to hit 42 homers and 160 RBIs.
With Manny’s positive drug test there shouldn’t be a soul in Boston that misses Manny Rameriz now. Fans (myself included) used to see his off the field antics as trival and goofy and as long as he produced on the field, it didn’t matter. Last year when he started to fake injuries on the field and purposely strike out, things changed – now doping.
So long Manny, it’s good to have you out of town. Jason Bay’s humble personality, production, and defense is much nicer.
Oh, and for those who will still say, “but Manny was such a ‘Yankee Killer’,” Bay has been batting .556 with 3 homers, 10 RBIs, and an on base percentage of .708 in the five games the Red Sox have played against New York this year.
Three cheers for Jason Bay!
